alot has happened since last post.  I delivered the money to children's hospital last monday and the donation was greatly appreciated.  It is amazing to see what they do for the childrens whole experience at the hospital, not only are they first rate for child care but the attention and time that they put into each detail of their new building is incredilble.  Again thanks to everyone who supported the raffle.

I also fished a few streams on a couple of weeknights to catch a some sulphur action and it has been good.  this past weekend was our annual cast and blast near tionesta.  During the first morning i got one bird to answer for a half hour or so but he never showed himself,  then i hit a couple brookie streams around lunch and caught a brookie that is in my top 5 prettiest fish(i will post pics later, also a gorgeous waterfall).  For the evening i hit tionesta creek and witnessed a heavy brown drake hatch, lots of bugs but few fish working them.  I worked a palomino for quite a while, he was swimming a fifty foot lap and rising occasionally, i managed to get him to eat twice but never hooked him.  I know some people think of them as garbage fish, but i dont, i enjoy trying to catch them, especially when they are pushing 24", being able to see the fish so easy can be a fun change every so often.  The next morning i had fun with a hen that came  into 15' and then hung out with me for the next two hours, we called back and forth and couldnt get a bird to answer.  I also found some tracks and scat of a bear that I must have jumped because the tracks were fresh and running down over the hill.

the past two days have been a great change in the turkey woods with birds absolutely hammering,  i called in a few birds both days and managed to completely miss a huge long beard at 15yards(unbelievable) I was in shock when he ran away.  He was shoulder to shoulder with another long beard and i think i was afraid of killing two so i think i shot high and to the left.  Oh well, at least i didnt injure him, and i will be back at it tomorrow

This past Friday was the end of the rod raffle.  Thanks to everyone who supported the raffle we were able to raise $1,055.00 that was donated to the Children's Hospital Foundation.  The winning daily lottery number ticket was not sold, so i picked a stub from a hat for the winner of the rod.  He was very excited to have won the rod, he is new to the sport so i would just like to wish him luck in learning this wonderful sport.  Thanks again to everyone who supported the raffle.

fished oil yesterday, it was windy but we managed to fish dries all afternoon,  the wind seemed to put them down for a minute and as soon as it calmed a little bit they would rise again.  All that seemed to be on the water were caddis, some with light olive bodies other with tan.
the pic below is of my wife from last sunday

i have fished a couple times last week and i have had some great luck on the water, i am also trying to get some good photos of my rods but my photography skills arent up to snuff yet and you will see that the macro on my camera is bad, i tried taking a pic of a blue quill and i just couldnt get it right.  the first pic here is from last year on a small brookie stream with my first rod, and the second is a pic of an 8'0" dickerson taper that i have been using a ton this year and loving it for nymphing and throwing dries.  I take very few pics of beached fish adn when i do it is very quick, i lay the fish down quickly and if i cant snap a good pic rt away, then oh well the fish is back in the water.  Over the next few weeks i am going to try and get good pics of fish, flies and rods. good luck to you on the water

trout opener

sat was the official start of trout season, for my family this means another year on the same bank that we have been fishing opening day for last 30+ years.  The weather was wet and chilly and the stream was packed.  We still had a great time. I made a bamboo spinning rod for my dad and got to watch him catch a good number of fish.
I spent a couple hours on some local streams on sunday with my wife and watched her sight nymph a gorgeous brown.  She was so excited, when she finally hooked the fish she just started to yell for me to help her.  She did however gain composure and did an excellent job landing it but does need some work on her posing for photos which i will post later.
I fished yesterday and had one of those days of nymphing when you can almost just drop your flys in the water and hook a fish.  It was a ball and then the evening brought a couple hours good dry fly fishing.  i love central pa.   My buddy is pretty new to the dry fly scene so it is fun to watch him improve and get to catch a fair number of fish, i escpecially enjoy watching him do it on a rod that i built.  He then gave us nice laugh towards dark when he had a slow motion fall which soaked him up to his neck, i couldnt laugh right away because he left out a gasp for air that scared me but when he said he was ok we both had a good laugh and he kept fishing til he got to cold.

get to the streams

i just fished on tues. and all i can say is get to the streams.  It was forecasted to be cold and maybe a little wet, we were expecting to nymph most of the day.  To our suprise after lunch we had some pretty good top water action.  I strongly urge you to get to the streams asap.

i fished a few days last week, started in south central pa on tuesday and was suprised to see a parking lot full of 9 trucks.  my buddy and i found a long stretch of water with no one around despite the crowd, i started with nymphs and he started with dries and we both had some luck, nothing to crazy tho, and then he worked nymphs into the riffles and i switched to dry(black stones).  with a few players rising occasionally i crept slowly thru the water adn after pinning one of the risers, a young dude came flying through the water adn parked himself 20ft above me and started chucking streamers.  i was pissed to say the least, he actually made a cast directly at me and landed his streamer within 5ft of me.  I really should have said something to him, but i decided to walk off all pissed off.  We left that stream and headed to a stream we often frequent, and the water looked great adn the nymphing was good.

wed.and thurs. i fished a few local stocked streams which both had very low flows and i actually comfortably wet waded in both, pretty wild for mid march.

saturday i fished out near state college, it was begining to look like a big mistake because most of the streams were rapidly rising, however around 3 we were walking to the car to go and grab a coffee when we spotted a riser.  I said "hold on a minute, i am gonna catch that fish in two casts, let me tie on a dry adn i will even keep the float on my leader".  what a mistake that was to say. the fish must of heard me because not only could i not hook him but in the next four hours of risers, i only pinned one fish, my buddies were hooking fish left and right while i was watching fish in front of me actually drift 4to 5 ft with my fly before denying it.  i actually had one fish blow my fly off the water.  my buddy gave me a fly to use that was working for him, and when he did this he could no longer get a strike on that fly.  Lesson of the day, be careful not to get to cocky, mother nature can knock you down at any time.

First post

Its late wedensday night and this is my first blog, mainly trying to figure out how the blog works.  Figured i could post a little info on my last day of fishing which was on thursday of last week,  fished central pa and found some ok olive action, nothing spectacular but enough to keep a dry fly tied on for 3hrs and it was pretty fun catching some wild browns on top and in the rain to boot.
I had forgot my camera for the trip and want to post some pics for the blog so  i am gonna start with some pics from the rod shop
the first one is me planing some cane
this is a pic of my dip tank and also my oven under the cabinet
